About

M.cropractice is a spatial practice founded in 2025 by architect Jānis Aufmanis, operating at the intersection of architecture, art, and research. The practice is driven by a curiosity for the relationships between these fields and seeks to build meaningful collaborations with like-minded artists, designers, researchers, and professionals.

As a young practice, M.cropractice pays close attention to the mundane and the ordinary, exploring how everyday conditions can be transformed into distinctive spatial experiences and moments of unexpected value. Rather than pursuing novelty for its own sake, the practice works through careful observation, contextual sensitivity, and critical engagement with the existing world.

M.cropractice operates across multiple scales and modes of practice. Alongside architectural and interior design projects, it engages in academic research, writing, and artistic production. The practice aims to bridge these domains, fostering a research-based approach to design while allowing speculative and artistic inquiry to inform built work.

The name M.cropractice currently refers to a micro-practice—small, agile, and exploratory. Yet it also points towards future possibilities. As the practice evolves, the distinction between micro and macro remains intentionally open, suggesting a continuous movement between intimate interventions and broader spatial, cultural, and disciplinary questions.
